Kapap vs Krav Maga: Differences & Effectiveness

The world of martial arts does not seem to cease with just a few forms. We are here to discuss two amazing such forms, Kapap and Krav Maga. Let us discuss each of them in detail and understand how they are different from each other.

Under a strict comparison of both, you may find that out of Kapap and Krav Maga, the latter steals the limelight. Krav Maga is better from many perspectives, with the training of as less as three months, a player can learn to fight and defend himself with Krav Maga. Kapap, require lengthier time periods for proper training. Further, Krav Maga makes use of defense forms from various martial arts. This makes it possible for a fighter to observe an all round approach to defense.

What is Kapap?

Translated in simple terms, Kapap is a type of face to face combat system. It was developed in Israel, to be used by the elite military capacity for attack and defence. It is often believed by many that Kapap has a close resemblance to Krav Maga. However, the trainers of the martial art call it a more hardcore of form of fighting. Also, they claim that it is significantly less commercialised tan Krav Maga.

Kapap was developed as a combat system to defend in hand to hand fights by the Jewish strike brigades. Due to this, the martial art continued to remain a part of special defence forces. Till as recent as the ’90s, the art form was only used by the top elite units of Israel but it was later opened for learning worldwide.

Kapap is an excellent way of workout for the fighters. It is a holistic approach to train and learn the art of Kapap. It includes several elements from mixed martial arts and their techniques.

Fighters in this martial art may engage in ground fighting, weapon defence skills and compliance of fundamental rules.

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is another excellent form of self defence. It involves some simple yet effective movements that can be implemented in real life situations as well. Krav Maga makes use of certain basic principles such as threat neutralisation and defensive manoeuvres. A player must focus his attempts on the identification of threat and reacting at the earliest.

The objective of martial art is to survive under any circumstances. Krav Maga emphasises on the use of resilience to win a fight, instead of focusing on too many techniques. The fighting techniques used in Krav Maga are originally sourced from many different martial arts. These include Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and more. A combination of their fighting techniques will teach you how to attack, defend and fight. Krav Maga focuses on sparring with a partner to marshal the form.

Which of Kapap or Krav Maga is more effective?

In terms of effectiveness, you can never go wrong with Kapap. Some may say that indeed its low degree of commercialisation is the reason why it is the more effective one. Being concept based, Kapap is easily amenable to different situations. Practising Kapap builds physical fitness, cardiovascular endurance and strength in the player. This makes him capable and effective at a martial art.

The evolutionary martial art of Kapap is effective to a large extent when compared to Krav Maga.

Which is better for self defence?

When it comes to self defense, you are likely to find yourself in a situation of urgency. The conditions will be unlike those of a fighting ring. From this perspective, you are better off with Krav Maga. This is mainly because the martial art is typically designed to train a fighter under all conditions, such that he is able to defend himself.

By combining the fighting techniques from different martial arts, it ensures that a player is able to survive and defend himself against all attacks. To be able to do so with Kapap, you will need to have years of training behind you. At the same time, you should have ample practical experience to tackle someone with Kapap, which might not be feasible in a situation where you are under attack.

In Conclusion

As a fighter, you cannot always be sure of an imminent attack. Effective training in a martial art can ensure that you are able to tackle the fight and ensure your survival. This is why Krav Maga is considered to be the better form of martial arts since it trains people to undergo real fights.

Today, a larger number of players wish to learn ways to defend themselves. They are not as interested to learn attacking techniques, as much as defence. For them, learning either of Kapap or Krav Maga can be very fruitful.
