Easiest & Quickest Martial Arts You Can Learn

A boy named Martin is in high school. He sits on the first bench and has an answer to all the questions his teacher asks him. He is a brilliant student, but he doesn’t enjoy going to school. But why? The reason is bullying. 

His body falls into the category of ectomorph body types. The ectomorph body is usually thin with lesses body fat and small bone structure. Martin is too thin that even regular fit pants will be extra-large for him. He is artistic and thoughtful but he is also quiet, private, lacks confidence and is an introvert. 

A boy named Steve joined his class in the middle of the year. He is a healthy kid and has a masculine body. Martin shares all the notes of the completed syllabus with Steve. In less than two weeks they become best friends. 

One fine day, Steve was waiting for him outside the classroom corridor. He saw Martin entering the gate and 4 senior students following him. One kid from the group pushed Martin and laughed at him. As martin tries walking away ignoring them. One kid again kicked him. Martin falls to the ground and starts weeping.

Steve saw the whole thing. He came running to the spot and started charging them with different fighting moves. He strikes each one of them so hard that they ran off without looking back.  

Martin was still in the same position looking at Steve with wide eyes open. He asked, how did you do that? Steve smiled and replied, I am a martial artist. I have been training myself for 5 years. 

By the time school was over for a day. Martin went straight home and started browsing the internet. He was searching for the easiest and fastest way to learn martial arts. 

If you are in a similar situation to Martin or want to learn martial arts for whatever reason. Don’t search for the quickest and easiest way to learn martial arts. You will not find it. 

Every martial art needs dedication and hard work. There is nothing called a ‘Martial arts magic wand’ that if you touch will make you a martial artist in a month or a year. 

But here are some martial arts that you could start with if you are a beginner. The easiest martial art for beginners is Karate followed by Brazilian Jit-Jitsu and so on. 

5 Quick and Easy Martial Arts One can Learn

1. Karate

Karate is one of the most popular martial arts in the world. Thousands and thousands of people all over the world join karate classes each year. The reason it’s so popular is the fact that it’s one of the simplest and easiest martial arts. 

But understand that it’s only easy at the basic level. To be an intermediate karate martial artist you must train for a long time. It’s not that easy to be a full-grown karate martial artist.

At the basic level, you’ll learn punching, strikes, and kicking. You’ll also learn self-defense techniques and overall body balance. When you advance to an intermediate level you learn more about balance, speed, and power. 

Karate is a great skill to use if you are dealing with an opponent who has no martial art training. But if you happen to fight with the skilled martial artists. You could be the one getting punches. 

Still, you have nothing to lose if you learn basic Karate. Martial arts is like drugs once you get used to it. It gets hard to let go. Karate is the best form of martial arts for beginners. If you are planning to join martial arts classes you should start with Karate and make it quick. 

2. Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu 

Next to Karate is Jiu-Jitsu martial arts. This is another popular art that a beginner can learn. The reason for its popularity is the grappling and punching techniques. 

BJJ gives you some of the best basic techniques that are quick and easy. While karate focuses on a punch, strike, and kicks, BJJ has a whole different basic level. BJJ martial art could be a little harder compared to Karate but the benefits are also double. 

This is a form of martial art that not only teaches you how to strike and defend but you also learn how to relax while training.

You also get the chance to learn different moves. Once Flavio Canto, who is a Judo Olympian and BJJ black belt said:

There are more you’ll learn in Jit-Jitsu’s basic level. You’ll learn breath control which is one of the most important aspects of BJJ. Other than that, you’ll learn grappling techniques, straight armlock guard techniques, standing guard pass techniques and defense techniques. 

The best thing to do while you enroll for BJJ is to enroll with a friend. Training together will increase the learning process. You could also try different techniques without hurting each other. 

3. Judo 

Another great martial art for beginners is Judo. Judo is best when it comes to learning, how to position your body for a fight, learning throw techniques, grappling techniques, and striking techniques. 

Judo has three major categories. Nage Waza, also known as throwing techniques, Katame Waza which as grappling techniques and Atemi Waza known as striking techniques. 

At the basic level, you will learn a little bit about each technique. To master each technique you have to continue the training for years. But 1 year of training will be enough to knock down a non-martial art opponent. 

The training process follows the steps as mentioned below. 

  • Posture (Shisei) – The first thing that any Judo institute will teach you is how to stand. There are two types of standing posture. Shizen-Tai is a natural standing posture and Jigo-Tai is a defensive standing posture. 
  • Foot movements (Suri Ashi) – In this level of training you will learn how to balance on one foot. It gives you a great advantage to learn body balance. 
  • Body movements (Tai Sabaki) – This training session will be about quick body movements. There are three types of body movements in Judo. Mae Sabaki which is a front body movement control, Ushiro Sabaki which is back body movement control and Mae-Mawari SaBaki which is a front turn body movement control.
  • Falling techniques (Ukemi) – This helps you to land safely when your opponent throws you down. 
  • Grappling techniques (Kumi Kate) – In this training session, you will learn how to lock your opponents both in a natural posture and defensive posture. 

4. Boxing 

Lots of people think martial arts have to do with flying kicks, round kicks and so on and boxing is another form of wrestling. But most people don’t know that boxing is a martial art that focuses on hand punches. 

Now if you are a beginner and looking to learn any form of martial arts in the quickest way possible, boxing can be a good option. The best part about boxing is that you can learn it by yourself at home. You only need a pair of hand wraps, a pair of bag gloves and a punchbag. 

But training at home could slow down your progress and could cause you injuries. If you are a beginner, it’s best you get the training for a certified boxer trainer. 

On a basic level, you will learn how to align your front toe and back heel. You will also learn how to equally distribute weight across your leg with knees slightly bent, how to keep your head behind your gloves and how to position your body for best boxing punches. 

Different punching styles is the major training you will get in any boxing training. But before you join the training make sure to learn how to run and rope skipping.  Do some basic push-ups, squats, and sit-ups. You’ll need it. 

5. Taekwondo 

Taekwondo will be very interesting if you like to learn kick techniques. Taekwondo is pretty straight forward and learning this martial art won’t be hard. The major part of the training focuses on kicking techniques. 

Though the training focuses a lot on kicking. It also has hand strike techniques. Some of the basic moves that you’ll learn in Taekwondo are:

  • Front kick – Front kick is the foundation of every taekwondo kicks. This kick is also one of the best taekwondo defense kicks. 
  • Back kick – Another form of a kick in taekwondo. This kick is best to attack your opponents without even turning back.
  • Sidekick – This kick can be a little tricky. You need balance and right posture. This is one of the hardest kicks in taekwondo. 
  • Round kick – The most adore kick in martial arts. This kick is quick and super useful in any fight. Though learning this kick could take little more time than the rest, it’s not as difficult as sidekick. 
  • Straight punch – This technique can be very effective in street fights. With this punch technique, you can punch your opponent before his hand reaches your face. 
  • Face block – This technique is best for protecting your head and face from your opponents. 
  • Low square – This is the primary block technique in taekwondo. 

Conclusion 

The quickness and the ease of learning martial arts depend on the learning ability of a person. No martial arts is easy or quick to learn. Each martial art has its own specific characteristics and is unique in its own way. But the best part about every martial arts is, it’s learnable. Some need less time to learn and some need more time.

But understand that you cannot learn any form of martial arts in a month or two.  You will need at least 6 or more months to master the basic level of any martial arts. Don’t be under the false expectation that you’ll learn martial arts in 3 or 4 months. Like any other art, martial arts also test your patience and dedication. 

Long story short. You can master any form of martial arts but not in a short period of time.
